Durham, NC, Mayor Steve Schewel joined the Durham Kids Save team and partners earlier this month at Y.E. Smith Elementary for the final day of savings week. Durham Kids Save, a 1:1 Fund partner, provides each incoming kindergarten student at Y.E. Smith Elementary School with a $100 deposit in a child’s savings account and additional incentives to save.

Expanding CSAs through Regional Collaboration

Over the past few years, we’ve seen a lot of energy around Children’s Savings Account (CSA) programs across the country, but the New England region has been particularly active. Three New England states – Maine, Rhode Island and Connecticut – now have statewide CSA programs in place, and both Boston and the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s Office launched pilot programs last year.
