Springboard to Opportunities Hosts 5K Fundraiser for CSA Holders

1:1 Fund partner Springboard to Opportunities connects families living in affordable housing in Jackson, Mississippi with resources and programs that help them advance in school, work and life. They hosted their annual 5K Race for Our Community on April 21 in partnership with Hope Credit Union.

More than 200 people ran or walked the 5K route and helped raise $34,000 to provide initial deposits for Children’s Savings Accounts. This year marked the fourth annual 5K event Springboard to Opportunities has hosted and the second one that raised money for CSAs. For last year’s 5K, the 1:1 Fund partner raised $33,000, just shy of their 2018 total.

Just before the race, Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antwar Lumumba spoke to the runners and walkers in support of Springboard to Opportunities’ efforts to uplift the community. The 5K route map crossed by the house of civil rights activist Medgar Evers, which was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2017. Afterward, the 5K participants and various members of the community celebrated in a block party with music, food and games at the Lincoln Garden.
