"I Have A Dream" Des Moines is Now the By Degrees Foundation
After 28 years with the “I Have A Dream” Foundation, the Des Moines Dream affiliate has rebranded as a separate nonprofit: the By Degrees Foundation. Staff members announced the change on December 5 at Findley Elementary School in Des Moines, with students, parents and community members in attendance.
The organization will continue supporting children with its unique children’s savings account (CSA) program and host of other services, including classroom instruction, community and family events, and field trips to postsecondary institutions.
“Our new name reinforces our belief that changing the trajectory of a child’s path by a few degrees can have a long-term impact on their future,” said Emily Westergaard, who is Chief Executive Officer of the By Degrees Foundation. “Our organization has evolved over the years and our new name better aligns with our mission to serve our community as a local and independent nonprofit focused on a future-ready approach to education.”
The By Degrees Foundation currently serves more than 1,000 students, with participants saving an average of $180 per year. Since joining the 1:1 Fund in 2014, the By Degrees Foundation has been one of the 1:1 Fund’s most active partners. The 1:1 Fund has helped the By Degrees Foundation raise $140,170 to help students save for college. Learn more about the By Degrees Foundation or how you can support their work!
